Footy 2020

by John Hunter Combo

What a year! Football quarantine hubs, trans Australian migration, the Grand Final in Brisbane and Mike Brady alone at the MCG for all of us. Gary Ablett's Junior's last game, too. The Cats and Tigers prowl the Gabba looking to win the Cup.

At ev’ry year’s Grand Final for which old Vic’s re-nowned
You don’t have to listen hard to hear a mighty sound
It’s not the sound of footy fans shouting from the stands
It’s the thundering of Mike Brady, Football’s one-man
Minstrel band

Mike Brady sings up Football’s hall of fame.
Each song another giant of the game
Mike sings it loud he sings it strong, for fans across the land
What would become of Aussie Rules without its one-man band?

And speaking of Grand Finals, our two top teams are there
Waiting to run on the ground and there’s something in the air
They’ve struggled up the Ladder and they’ll play their best games for us
But not until Mike Brady sings an-other verse and chorus

But twenty-twenty’s virus forced out Victoria’s clubs
To the North and West of Australia quarantined in football hubs
Grand Final’s set for Queensland on a Rugby stamping ground
But the MCG, still will be, filled with that well-known sound

As Mike Brady sings Cazaly to the stands
Loud enough to reach the Gabba ground
Mike, “Sing it loud! Sing it strong!” for all of Oz to hear.
And hopefully Grand Final will come back home next year.
